SWIRL Enterprise 4.x Documentation

This section preserves the documentation for SWIRL Enterprise 4.x (releases 3.8 through 4.4.1). It is intended for organizations still running a 4.x deployment.

For current documentation, start at the documentation home or the SWIRL 5 Enterprise Quick Start.

What's Different in SWIRL 5

SWIRL 5 introduces significant changes relative to 4.x. Highlights:

  • Semantic Cache (separately licensed): federated results are cached, versions of the same document are clustered, and a canonical version can be pinned or elected automatically. See the Semantic Cache Guide.
  • Workspaces and members: sources can be scoped to workspaces and shared with specific members.
  • Built-in MCP server: SWIRL 5 ships the swirl_mcp package, replacing the standalone MCP proxy documented in the 4.x MCP guide. See the MCP Server (Enterprise) guide.
  • Docker-first deployment: the recommended way to run SWIRL 5 Enterprise is the Docker Compose stack. See the Installation Guide.

See the SWIRL 5 Release Notes for the full list.
